The Online Course that Changed My Blogging Life

Online courses are all the rage these days. I’m here to tell you my story…the truth about Elite Blog Academy. I started blogging in 2007 and quickly stopped. I was unsure blogging full-time was the direction I wanted to take my family. We were pregnant with our third baby and I was struggling with my identity. I hadn’t written much since I started having babies and I was content with that…at the time. But something happened after Baby #4. I started writing again. Performing again. And I picked up blogging again. This time with more confidence. As a graphic and web designer with tons of experience, I thought I knew…

What Does Having a Viral Post Really Mean?

I have ONE post that gets a lot of my traffic. People read the other stuff…but this one post is THE post people read the most. What is it? It’s the one that tells married women to rethink male friends. Apparently, this topic hits home with a lot of married women. When you have a “viral” post you want to quickly leverage it so that you can gain even more traction (and monetize it correctly so you can make more income). And when the initial traffic dies down you want to figure out how to recreate that “viral” effect again and again. Not just for that first viral post…but every post thereafter. >>…

Three Traits of a Christian Blogger

To a non-blogger, there is a The Secret Life of a Blogger that you never see! We learn how to market, how to create stunning graphics, how to 3-point light a photoshoot and continue our education in writing/blogging by purchasing online training courses going to conferences. To the naked eye, it might see pointless. We are writers…so why can’t we just write? Why do we have to do all that other stupid stuff? Are we really trusting the Holy Spirit if we do all that marketing and other hoopla? Honestly, these are questions that I’ve asked myself. In my #JesusBlogger series, I tackle so many of those heart issues that specifically…

How to Focus Your Blog’s Message

A group of us were having a lively conversation on the 8th floor near the elevators. And it all started with a stranger. Through a series of coincidences (yeah, right), I introduced myself to complete stranger during sessions at a recent writing conference (Re:Write 2015) as I was on my way up to check emails and which turned into me sitting down with another stranger, who happens to be part of the National Speaker’s Association. There he asked me a question that has had my head reeling for weeks. “If you had 45 minutes to deliver a speech to a specific audience of a million people, what would you speak on…

    Monetizing YouTube for Christian Bloggers

I had a hankering to hear the Jonny Diaz “Breathe” song. So, I did what any normal person does. I looked the video up on YouTube. I clicked off the tab so I could continue blogging while listening to worship music. As with many YouTube videos, a sponsored ad started to run. I didn’t pay it any mind. I pushed the words to the background of my mind…that’s until I heard the f-word bleeped out three times. I couldn’t click over quick enough to figure out what it was advertising, so I can’t tell you what it was for…maybe a movie trailer. I dunno. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen something questionable…

How to Overcome Distractions When Writing a Novel

During the month of November this crazy thing happens called NanoWriMo. That’s short for NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth. It’s a great challenge for those looking for a community as they plow through writing their novels. In order to “win” NanoWriMo, the author has to complete 50k words in a month. That’s about 1,700 words a day. Doable, but difficult given all the distractions writer’s face on a daily basis. This video that I did on BLAB discusses how to overcome distractions when writing a novel. These tips don’t just apply to NanoWriMo, but to all attempts at writing. Distractions discussed Timeline: 0:45 – Life 3:00 – Having a Goal 3:25…
