5 Ways Having Too Many Topics Are Hurting Your Blog

I started my main blog in 2011. After years of trying to put everything on one blog, I decided to split up my main blog into three different blogs, including this one. If you want to know why I did that in full, you can read the post here. In it, I touched on why splitting them up was a good thing, but now I want to focus on what happens if you have a blog that is too diverse in topics. Contrary to the old adage, you can have too much of a good thing…and let me explain why. Problem 1: The Reader Who Doesn’t Stay Imagine you are…

How to Pursue Your Blog & Business When You Are a Mom

When you’re a mom, finding time for the basics — sleeping, eating, pooping — is hard. Sure, at one point in your life you had other aspirations than being “just a mom,” but let’s face it, most days any dreams you had fall LOW on the totem pole of priority. But finding time to pursue your dream doesn’t have to be impossible. I’m a mom of (almost) seven children, I write a regular blog, have 9 published books on Amazon, go to conferences, speak occasionally at women’s events and sometimes even exercise…sometimes. I also homeschool, play with my kids and find time to go on dates with my husband. But…

  • Christian blogging is harder because we have an enemy, Satan, who doesn't want us to promote things of God. Here are FIVE lies Christian bloggers believe and some helpful resources to encourage you on your blogging journey.

5 Lies Christian Bloggers Believe that Make Them Feel Like Quitting

It never fails, a new year starts, I get a new planner and I feel like a BOSS. But there are so many blogalicious things to do. There’s Pinterest. Facebook’s ever-changing algorithms. And Instagram…where everyone stands on tables to get the perfect photo! It’s just too much. And that doesn’t even include writing a post! Sometimes I feel like throwing in the towel on this Christian blogging thing. I wish I could tell you how many times I’ve prayed this prayer: Lord, please just take this blogging burden away. Because blogging is hard. Satan Wants You to Give Up Your Blog Christian blogging is harder because we have an enemy, Satan, who…

  • Ever wonder why some people get all the followers on Instagram and others don't? Are you asking "why my Instagram account is not growing?" I did an experiment and here are the top reasons I didn't follow you on Instagram.

5 Reasons Why I Didn’t Follow You on Instagram

Your non-blogger personal habits are a big indicator of what the rest of the world is doing. Many times we put on our blogger hat and forget what “regular people” are doing. Recently, I was asked to follow generously people in a daily share thread (you know the ones…share for a share…follow for a follow) specifically focused on Instagram. I opened up a slew of tabs to see which ones I wanted to follow. I often wonde: why my Instagram account is not growing. After this experiment, I know what makes the cut..and what doesn’t. And this is coming from a Christian blogger…so I didn’t just follow you because you loved…

  • I’m a homeschooling mom of seven children. I’ve been married since late 2003 and have been a work-at-home-mom (WAHM) since 2007. I work as a blogger/vlogger, web/graphic designer, and author of 3 non-fiction books, 1 novel and four homeschooling resource books. Working at home with all the other chores moms are responsible for is sheer insanity.

I work as a blogger/vlogger, web/graphic designer, and author of 3 non-fiction books, 1 novel and four homeschooling resource books. Working at home with all the other chores moms are responsible for is sheer insanity. My WAHM life is not pretty. It’s not perfect. And some days I wonder if it’s even worth it. My Schedule: 10am-11am: Wakeup, eat, coffee, Bible(ish) time, feeding people 11am-12pm: Who knows? 12pm-4pm: Start homeschooling 4 of the 6 kids 4pm-5pm: Avoiding the kids at all cost, showering, brushing teeth (I’m not even kidding) 5pm-6pm: Dinner as kids binge watch…

  • The story starts, "Once upon a time...there was a blog post." Many bloggers write posts with high hopes, only to experience the post that never went viral.

The Post that Never Went Viral

Once upon a time…there was a blog post. This little post was born in earnest. He had a clear and concise message, as all good posts should. Throughout his development, he followed the rules of a proper little post. And after he was written, he was formatted for readability. He had bullet points, bold letters, h2s and h3s, Not so many to be distracting, but just enough. Finally, when he was ready and not a moment before, he was published for all the world to see. He sat and waited expectantly. He hoped. He dreamed. And waited. Then, waited some more. But the readers weren’t coming. Maybe, he thought, I haven’t…

I’m NOT a Light and Wispy Christian Blogger

We all know those Christians, homes & blogs. Full of light. Clean. With wisps of color. I salute you. But no matter how hard I try (not that I am saying that I’m trying most days, cuz I kinda like who I am)…I am NOT a light and wispy Christian. Nor am I a light and wispy Christian blogger. I’m bold. I’m brash. Sometimes I cuss (but not online because I can edit it out). You know that shirt that says, “I love Jesus, but I cuss a little.” I don’t like it. But I WOULD wear a shirt that says, “I love Jesus, but I cuss a little, but I really wish…

    My Big Jesus Blogger Mistake

What is the WORST blogger mistake a Christian blogger can make? Well…let me tell you, because I made it! And I want to help you avoid it! This is a super short post I’m writing as a warning to all #JesusBloggers out there!  (Like less than 200 words short.) Recently, I sold shirts on my website. I used a local printer and friend (whom I adore and does great work). But I had THAT feeling. You know, the gut feeling that I was making the wrong decision by entering into this business relationship. Within two sales, I knew I had not followed that Holy Spirit. Disobeying the leading of the…

  • I can't even navigate your blog because of the constant jumping of the screen and loading of ads. Promote stuff, sure. But your blog has too many ads.

Is there such thing as too many ads on a blog?

It has come to my attention that blogging can make money for the blogger…like a lot of money. Seriously. Okay. I knew this already. But lately it has REALLY come to my attention. Why? The ads. They. Are. Everywhere. Ads for Ford. Ads for Best Buy. Ads for Home Depot (does anyone actually buy stuff from Home Depot online because when my toilet breaks I drive my butt down the street to get what I need PRONTO!). Ads for brands that I’m sure no one in the free world has heard about and doubt you actually use. I can’t even navigate some blogs because of the constant jumping of the…

Blog Like This Instead of Like That

I once wore the name ‘blogger’ like a badge of honor…until recently. Do you feel like the lines between ‘blogger’ and ‘advertiser’ have been blurred? Are the sponsored posts killing your creativity? Are your emails filled with coupon codes when you ARE NOT a coupon blogger? Are you writing about the latest trending event to get more hits instead of more hearts? And it’s not just blogging. It’s even affecting my favorite YouTube channels. I will get halfway through a cute skit and realize it’s got product placement. I can’t tell if a vlogger really likes the product or is just getting paid! Can we Escape the Commercialization of Blogging? Even Facebook is noticing…
